Holding Its Breath

(Written on December 15, 2011)

Bathed in the setting sun,
I clasp your hand,
you, shy by nature,
and sing a love song softly into your ear.

Light shimmers on the river’s surface, dazzling.
A little egret, just having landed,
moves forward
slowly, step by step.

As if to still
the sound of the murmuring stream,

the world
held its breath.

Eternity
condensed into this single moment.

この詩は、ふたりの間に流れるごく短い時間が、
世界全体を静止させるほどの密度を持つ瞬間を描いている。

夕日、手の温もり、小鷺の歩み、せせらぎ――
どれも特別な出来事ではない。
しかし、それらが同時に在ることで、
時間は「流れるもの」ではなく「凝縮されるもの」へと変わる。

世界が息をひそめるとは、
外界が消えることではない。
むしろ、すべてが過不足なくそこに在る状態だ。

永遠とは遠くにある概念ではなく、

This poem portrays a fleeting moment between two people
that carries a density strong enough to quiet the entire world.

The sunset, the warmth of a hand, the egret’s slow steps,
the sound of flowing water—
none of these are extraordinary on their own.
Yet when they coexist, time no longer moves forward;
it gathers.

When the world “holds its breath,”
nothing disappears.
Rather, everything exists fully, without excess or lack.

Eternity is not something distant.
It is already present,
condensed within this single moment.

光が導いた太陽が虚空　舞う

This poem depicts the moment when a motionless world
begins to move again.

The sun and images of the future appear vivid,
yet they remain elusive—
dancing rather than staying still.

“Dry emptiness” does not mean the absence of emotion,
but a state in which the reason to move has been lost.
From that stillness, feet begin to awaken,
not through logic, but through feeling—
through the impulse of love.

The future does not begin with plans.
It begins with a single step
taken toward someone.

人影いずこへか
大堰川の声色
七色に聞こゆる
幾千幾万の人の夢
真実の夢
平安の都にこそありしか
否　幻なるか
澄める月の美しさ
今宵の迷い　打ち払う
限りある生の歌を謳う

Night at Togetsukyo Bridge

Written on November 29, 2015

Night falls on Togetsu Bridge.
No trace of human shadow.
The Ōi River speaks
in seven shifting colors.

Thousands upon thousands of dreams—
true dreams—
were they once rooted
in the capital of Heian?
Or were they only phantoms?

The moon, clear and absolute,
sweeps away tonight’s hesitation.
I sing the song
of this finite life.

この詩に込めた思い

この詩を書いたとき、京都の夜の静けさが胸の奥まで届いていた。
観光地としての渡月橋ではない。
千年の間人々の夢を受け止めてきた場所として向き合った。
人の姿が消えたとき、橋と川と月だけが残り、
その三つが不意に「人生そのもの」に重なった。
川の七色の声は、私の心の揺らぎでもあり、
過去に生きた無数の人々の願いの残響でもある。
月に迷いを払われた瞬間、
ようやく「限りある生」を真正面から受け入れ、
歌うという行為は祈りに近いものだった。

Thoughts Behind the Poem

When I wrote this poem, the silence of Kyoto’s night cut deeply into me.
I faced Togetsu Bridge not as a tourist spot, but as a place that had carried centuries of human dreams.
Once the crowds disappeared, only the bridge, the river, and the moon remained—and the three quietly aligned with the shape of my own life.

The river’s “seven-colored voice” mirrored the trembling of my heart, and also the lingering wishes of countless people who lived before me.
When the moon swept away my hesitation, I finally accepted the finiteness of life.
To “sing” in such a moment felt close to prayer, a vow to live despite the transience of existence.

The devil’s work—
a sky of lead,
thunder breaking open,
lightning running wild,
rain that shatters the ground.

The sorrow of the sick,
the sorrow of the poor,
the sorrow of the lonely.

My right to be happy—
I give it to you
as a swan’s pure feather.
You must become happy.
There is only one feather,
and I do not mind.
You, surely,
will find happiness.

My Happiness

この詩に込めた思い

2012年、この詩を書いたときも、心は真っ白で純粋だった。
何の飾りも、意図もない。“人を想う”というまっすぐな気持ちだけがあった。
それをそのまま言葉にした。
自分の中のやさしさとも出会っていた気がする。

十三年という歳月が過ぎても、あのときの心は何も濁っていない。
あの瞬間の心が、今、自分によみがえってくる。
「本当の幸福は、素直な心の中にある」のだと。

Thoughts Behind the Poem

When I wrote this poem in 2012, my heart was pure and white.
No decoration, no intention—only a straightforward feeling of caring for someone.
I simply put that emotion into words.
It felt as if I had met the gentleness within myself.

Thirteen years have passed, yet that heart remains unclouded.
That moment’s feeling now returns to me again,
whispering softly—
“True happiness lies in a sincere heart.”

この詩を書いたのも2012年。
心の奥底に流れている想いは変わらない。
人は誰も、抱きしめられることでしか、
心の鎖をほどくことができないのかもしれない。

「千倍の愛で」という言葉には、
人間の愛は、それほどまでにあるということ。
痛みも、哀しみも、過去もすべて包みこむ。

十三年という時が流れても、
この詩に宿る温度は少しも冷めていない。
時を超えて、より深く、静かに燃えている。

Thoughts Behind the Poem

This poem was also written in 2012.
The feeling flowing deep within my heart has never changed.
Perhaps no one can truly release the chains of the heart
without being embraced.

The phrase “with a thousandfold love”
means that human love can reach that depth—
a love that embraces pain, sorrow, and the past itself.

Even after thirteen years,
the warmth that lives within this poem has not cooled.
Beyond time, it burns more deeply,
more quietly than ever.

人には、誰にも見せない涙がある。
その涙は、人の愛によって知られる。
誰かの痛み　涙ー。
慰めではない。沈黙の中での心と心の融合。

Every person carries tears unseen by others.
Those tears are known only through another’s love.
Someone’s pain—someone’s tears—
They are not for consolation,
but a silent fusion of heart to heart.
This poem records that fleeting moment.

追記 — 涙と希望

人の純粋な愛や思いやりは、心から心へと届く。
そこには見返りなんてない。
ただ目の前の一人の人の痛みを感じ取ろうとするから。
その行為は、世界をやさしく包む。
涙を希望へと変えていく。
私はそう信じて生きてきた。
だから、いま感謝を込めて詩を書いている。

Pure love and compassion travel from one heart to another.
They ask for nothing—only to feel the pain of the person before us.

自由な時間がある
一日のなかに

文字通り
その時間
なにに使っても
自由

きっと
人それぞれに
その時間を
自由に使うでしょう

なにに使うかを考えるために
その時間を使う人もいると思う
これまた
人それぞれだけど

その時間を
誰と共有したいかということを
思った

その人と
どこで
なにをしたいかと思った

例え
なにをしても良い時間が
自由にあっても

誰と一緒にいたいかが
わたしは
すぐに思い付く

きっと
合意してくれるはず

独りだけでは
あまりに
寂しいと
わたしは思うし

あなたも

Time with You

There is a time of freedom
within each day,
a time each person is given.

That time—
you may use it
for anything.
It is, simply, free.

Surely,
each person will choose
their own way
to use that time.

Some may spend it
just thinking
about how to spend it—
and that, too,
is their freedom.

But I wondered
with whom
I would want
to share that time.

Where would we be,
and what would we do?

Even if
I could do anything
with my free time—

the person
I’d want to be with
comes to mind
right away.

I’m sure
you would agree.

To be alone
is far too lonely,
I think—
and I can’t
leave you alone, either.

もう、あの頃の自分の心をすべては思い出せない。
けれど、この詩には確かに、
「誰かと時間を分かち合いたい」という切実な想いが刻まれている。

自由という言葉を、
ただの“好きにしていい時間”ではなく、
“誰と共に生きたいか”というまっすぐな問いを
心に感じていた。
孤独を受け入れ、あなたを信じていた。

「あなたも独りだけにしておけない」——
この一行は、独善ではなかったはず。僕の純粋無垢な祈りだったと思う。

I can no longer recall
everything that lived in my heart back then.
But I know this poem holds,
deep within its words,
a yearning —
the wish to share time with someone.

The word freedom
was not, to me,
a moment to do whatever I pleased,
but a sincere question:
“With whom do I want to live my life?”

Even while accepting loneliness,
I still believed in you.

“You can’t be left alone either”—
that line,
I think now,
was my innocent prayer.

Longing to Meet You

I longed to meet you,
and I held that feeling
with everything I had—
never letting it break,
never letting it fade.
That is what
I want to tell myself.

A million years
of pure, untouched underground water.
Winter ends, and the spring wind rises.
A wondrous light—
the full moon that illuminates the soul.

The heart burns
like a molten furnace.
The feet stand firm
on the earth of a wished-for future.
The voice reaches out,
resonating through the ten directions.

Suddenly,
from the depths of the chest,
joy wells up.

I longed to meet you.
At last,
I have met you.
I longed for you—
and finally,
I reached you.

That joy
raced through the vast void,
soared across the three thousand worlds—
a sincerity without limit,
with all phenomena
as its stage.

It fears not even
a single thread of negativity;
it has erased it,
utterly and completely.

With a smile of affirmation
and a gaze of tenderness,
I sink
into the great universe of peace.

You are
love itself.
You are—
after all—
love.

The time spent longing for one person
holds solitude, hope, pain,
and the stubborn heart that keeps believing.
At the end of that long current,
came the moment when I could finally say,
“At last, I have met you.”
A quiet tremor rose from the depths,
and joy surged upward.

That joy felt as if it moved beyond the body,
running through the vast void,
soaring across the three thousand worlds.
A sincerity without limits
spread out with all existence as its stage.
Negative feelings vanished,
and only affirmation and tenderness remained.

The final line,
“You were love,”

濁悪の世にあっても
幸福な人は
人を軽んじたり
人を見下したり
人を羨んだり
人を憎んだり
人を妬んだり
人を恨んだり等々ということがない

風のように　軽く
光のように　あたたかく
その人は　誰であろうとも
尊厳を信じ守り抜く

幸福とは　誰かの幸せを願う心のこと
それがあるかぎり　不幸でも孤独でもない
自分の幸福は　簡単なのだ

幸福な人は
慈愛に生きている
その人の一日は
世界を　変える

What Truly Matters

Even in an age of corruption and decay,
a happy person
does not belittle others,
nor look down on them,
nor envy,
nor hate,
nor harbor jealousy or resentment.

Light as the wind,
warm as the light,
such a person—no matter who stands before them—
believes in the dignity of all,
and protects it with their life.

孤独のてっぺんにまで登りつめて
ようやく出会えた

山の途中の道で追い越した影にも
地下鉄の窓に映った世界にも
メディアの光にも
過去も　現在も　未来も
これまで出会った
どんな人よりも美しい

何という美しさなのだ
何という美しさなのだろう

孤独のてっぺんなのに
愛の花が咲いた

孤独には
苦闘　悲哀　血涙　闘病　激痛
絶望の足跡がある

私は生き

The Miracle of Solitude

I finally met you —
after climbing
to the very peak of loneliness.

On the mountain path, I passed shadows,
in the subway window, I saw faces,
in the light of the media — countless people.

Past, present, and future —
none were as beautiful
as you.

What beauty this is.
What unspeakable beauty.

At the very peak of loneliness,
a flower of love has bloomed.

In the word loneliness
remain the traces of struggle,
sorrow,
pain,
and despair.

Even so, I lived.
I climbed
to the peak of loneliness —

and there,
I met you.

Your beauty —
beyond anyone
I have ever known.

What beauty this is.

I am
by no means

A sleepless flower—
what does it grieve for
each night?

A sleepless flower,
its time to fall
has come.
Its strength is gone.

And yet,
its heart still aches,
still sheds tears.

you are the one

夜は、心の素顔があらわれる刻。

祈る夜、赦す夜、涙する夜、そして苦悩と向き合う夜。

誰かを想い、
その無事を祈り、
傷つけてしまった痛みを抱えながらも、
再び愛を信じようとする心の運動。

Night is the hour when the heart shows its true face.
Each of the four poems bears its own visage of night—
a night of prayer,
a night of forgiveness,
a night of tears,
a night facing agony.
They are not separate tales,
but traces of a single soul’s journey.

To think of someone,
to pray for their safety,
to hold the pain of having hurt them,
and still strive to believe in love once more.
To stay near a fading life,
to pour tenderness even into one’s own suffering.

Night is not the end.
As long as prayer continues,
a faint light burns in the depths of the heart,
and that light awakens the next morning.

These poems attempt to show
that amid love and agony,
