Thoughts Behind the Poem

This poem does not aim to express emotions or convey a clear meaning.
It places what appears before the eyes — objects, sounds, and the passing of time — as they are.

A glove on the roadside, cold coffee, an evening chime, the cry of a crow.
Each is ordinary, yet when they overlap, a quietness emerges that resists explanation.
That stillness exists not as a message, but as a state.

Rather than telling something, this poem records a moment
in which the world slowly grows heavier.
No interpretation is imposed.
Only the remaining sensation is left in place.

(Written on December 15, 2011)

Bathed in the setting sun,
I clasp your hand,
you, shy by nature,
and sing a love song softly into your ear.

Light shimmers on the river’s surface, dazzling.
A little egret, just having landed,
moves forward
slowly, step by step.

As if to still
the sound of the murmuring stream,

the world
held its breath.

Eternity
condensed into this single moment.

#poem
#poemblog

Thoughts Behind the Poem

This poem portrays a fleeting moment between two people
that carries a density strong enough to quiet the entire world.

The sunset, the warmth of a hand, the egret’s slow steps,
the sound of flowing water—
none of these are extraordinary on their own.
Yet when they coexist, time no longer moves forward;
it gathers.

When the world “holds its breath,”
nothing disappears.
Rather, everything exists fully, without excess or lack.

Eternity is not something distant.
It is already present,
condensed within this single moment.

A Future in Motion

The sun, guided by light, dances in the void.
Images of the future dance across the screen.

Dry emptiness disappears—
newly awakened feet begin to move.
Toward you,
because I love you.

#poem
#poemblog

Thoughts Behind the Poem

This poem depicts the moment when a motionless world
begins to move again.

The sun and images of the future appear vivid,
yet they remain elusive—
dancing rather than staying still.

“Dry emptiness” does not mean the absence of emotion,
but a state in which the reason to move has been lost.
From that stillness, feet begin to awaken,
not through logic, but through feeling—
through the impulse of love.

The future does not begin with plans.
It begins with a single step
taken toward someone.

The great power said to dwell within human life,
the profound and unfathomable mystery of the universe,
and the structure that embodies both
the complexity and instability of society—
these are gazed upon
with the dynamic vision of the mind.

From there,
the essence of interconnected phenomena
is shaped into poetry.

Thoughts Behind the Poem

This poem expresses the view that writing poetry is an act of penetrating the foundations of “the human being, the universe, and society.”
A poem is not merely an expression of emotion;
it is an attempt to approach the root of the world
with a kind of spiritual kinetic vision—
to grasp the essence of layered and interwoven phenomena
and render them into language.

In the activities we undertake in society—
or even in those we fail to undertake—
the point of departure
and the point of arrival
often become different things.

This is how
a purpose is quietly replaced
by its own means.

Yet,
we take no interest in that shift,
and we are made
not to take interest in it.

#poem
#substitution
#poemblog

Thoughts Behind the Poem

This poem explores a distrust toward the way purposes and means become subtly reversed within society.
What was meant to be the original goal is forgotten,
and the means gradually take its place—
a process so common that it often goes unnoticed.

The deeper issue is our own indifference to this shift,
as well as the societal mechanisms that encourage
or engineer that indifference.
This is the central concern of the poem.

Written on November 29, 2015

Night falls on Togetsu Bridge.
No trace of human shadow.
The Ōi River speaks
in seven shifting colors.

Thousands upon thousands of dreams—
true dreams—
were they once rooted
in the capital of Heian?
Or were they only phantoms?

The moon, clear and absolute,
sweeps away tonight’s hesitation.
I sing the song
of this finite life.

#poetry
#TogetsuBridge
#Kyoto
#poemblog

Thoughts Behind the Poem

When I wrote this poem, the silence of Kyoto’s night cut deeply into me.
I faced Togetsu Bridge not as a tourist spot, but as a place that had carried centuries of human dreams.
Once the crowds disappeared, only the bridge, the river, and the moon remained—and the three quietly aligned with the shape of my own life.

The river’s “seven-colored voice” mirrored the trembling of my heart, and also the lingering wishes of countless people who lived before me.
When the moon swept away my hesitation, I finally accepted the finiteness of life.
To “sing” in such a moment felt close to prayer, a vow to live despite the transience of existence.

Thoughts Behind the Poem

In Kitayama, the season seems to breathe in silence.
Mist, the shadows of trees, the stillness of a resting bird—
they are less a scene, and more a presence
that sinks quietly into the inner mind.

A faint shift of light or shadow can stir something within us.
No reason is needed;
the fact of simply being there is enough.

The “dazzle” of Kitayama is not a blinding brightness,
but an inward glow,
a light that rises from a deeper place.

This poem traces the subtle outline of the heart
through the landscapes that veil it.

（Written on Nov. 27, 2015）

One day,
a road suddenly appears.

Endless—
I begin to walk.

And one day,
I arrive.

#poem
#poemblog

Thoughts Behind the Poem

In life, a path often feels like something we choose.
Yet there are moments when the path reveals itself instead—
quietly, suddenly, without warning.

A view opens.
The feet move without reason.
We walk even when we do not know where it leads.

And at some point, we find ourselves “arrived.”
Not through will or effort,
but through a current,
a quiet force that moves beneath awareness.

This brief poem captures that moment—
the instant when an unseen guidance brushes against the heart.

（Written on Nov. 27, 2015）

Cold wind,
why do you blow?

People passing by
fade into every direction.

A back—
is that the face
it chooses to show?

A star burnt out,
and still,
the cold wind blows.

#poem
#poemblog

Thoughts Behind the Poem

A cold wind is never just cold.
It carries the silhouettes of passing people,
and the unspoken things that drift between them.

A back has its own expression—
one that often speaks more honestly than a face.
Silence can lean closer to truth than words ever could.

Like the afterglow of a burnt-out star,
there are moments when only the trace
of something lost
remains faintly in the air.

This poem tries to touch that presence—
the quiet, inner chill
that moves through a person
as the wind moves through the world.

For Affirmation

You say
your heart holds
countless wounds—

yet they shine
within you
like the rings
of an old tree.

Everything
becomes a medal.
Everything
becomes a blessing.

Pain
is not merely pain.
It is a seed
sleeping in the soil
of your silence,
waiting
for the day
it breaks into light.

A day
when you can say
you were right
to believe.

The clouded mirror
suddenly clears,
and the figure standing there
is no longer
the “someone” who was hurt,
but a human being
who has seized
a future full of possibility—
already rising
to their feet.

Light
will reach
even the deep floor
of the water.
And in that moment
of arrival,
the water trembles,
and a new time
touches your back.

There is
no greater joy.

More than the world
affirming you,
you affirm
yourself—
and I believe,
with all I am,
in the moment
those two
meet.

#poem
#poemblog

Thoughts Behind the Poem

At the heart of this poem
is the quiet power
that transforms pain into affirmation—
not by erasing it,
but by letting it evolve.

Every person carries wounds.
Sometimes they weigh heavily,
sometimes they fall into silence
and become shadows inside us.
Yet the ability to turn those wounds
into a form of value
belongs only to human beings,
and no one can take it away.

What I sought to depict here
was not the cleansing of pain,
but the moment
when pain becomes a medal—
a force that allows someone
to choose their future again.

The image of light
reaching the bottom of deep water
symbolizes this truth:
no matter how far one has sunk,
affirmation still arrives.

And above all,
before the world affirms you,
you must affirm yourself.
When those two recognitions overlap,
a new time begins to move.

That conviction
is the root of this poem.

The phrase exists
everywhere,
and yet—

and yet,
when the moment
of action arrives,
every figure
dissolves away.

The world
has reassigned
human beings
to different uses.

When
did it happen?
Even the question
has fallen out
of our hands.

Deep within,
a quiet numbness
has likely dwelled
since ancient time.

You told me
a certain system
was built
to uphold itself
by rearranging
the human shape.

At that moment,
who was it
that had become
the means?

People
erase the outlines
of one another’s
dwelling place.

And yet,
the effort to save
the one person before you
could redraw
a vital line
upon this earth.

＊

In a sealed place,
time halts.

Only the unmoving
clock of reality
remains.

What returns
its frozen hands
to motion
is the force
that lives
in the deepest chamber
of the chest.

#poem
#poemblog

Thoughts Behind the Poem

A person is gradually
reshaped to fit
someone else’s purpose.
The awareness of that change
is taken away
before one even notices.

When a human being
is quietly swapped
for a mere “use,”
the outline of their existence
fades.

Yet the act of trying
to save the one person
before your eyes
is not a use—
it is an opening
of the human itself,
a lifeline
that redraws the world.

What this poem holds
is not anger
but a declaration;
not resignation
but the sensation
that the force
deep in the chest
might set
a halted hand
into motion again.

I placed that sensation
onto the surface
of language.

World!
may these small lights of language
gently surround you again today.

A bilingual poetry site sharing poems on love, solitude, and life.
Each poem is followed by its English translation.

In this page, the poem appears first in Japanese,
followed by its English translation.
The reflections on the poem are also presented in both Japanese and English,
in a clear and consistent order so that both languages can be read naturally.

Hello, and thank you for being here.

Sun and Moon

The sun lifts itself,
unhurried.
The stars withdraw
without a sound.

Between the northern land
and the southern isles
lies a thin thread of time.
Here—an inland middle ground.

Darkness is something
to be broken.
In an instant—
light pours,
vast and composed.
Power gathers thickly,
and life answers.

Within you
there is spaciousness,
a direct line
to the infinite.
No difference
separates you from another.

You turn,
toward a light
filled with joy.
Would the sun
ever abandon you?
Nor would you
ever abandon the sun.

At midnight,
the moon stands firm.
You are being illuminated—
a quiet blessing
falling upon you.

#poem
#sun
#moon

Thoughts Behind the Poem

Darkness loses its meaning
the moment the sun appears.

Light is not mere brightness.
It is the original, primal truth
that allows existence
to become itself.

We often mistake
the darkness within us
for something solid and immovable.
Yet that darkness is only
a temporary shadow—
a form that emerges
before light reaches it.

The sun holds the power
to sweep such shadows away,
while the moon,
like a quiet conductor,
offers a gentle hint of their residue
to the depth of night.

#poem
#sun
#moon

Memories in Four Colors, Kamo River

Gentle,
delicate—
keeper of the heart.

No—
a different future
should have been.

No—
a different feeling
should have lived.

The moon,
it seems,
has long been your friend.

The moon over Kyoto
is tranquil,
beautiful,
and calm.

The books on your shelf
are old friends as well.

Murasaki Shikibu,
Bergson—
their spines touched by moonlight
deep inside the shelf.

Yes,
the lover is gone.
Gone long ago.

White,
black,
red,
blue—
four colors of memory.

The Kamogawa dries tears,
carrying only words
downstream.

#poem
#Kyoto
#KamoRiver

Thoughts Behind the Poem

This poem gathers the moment
when a lost love
meets the quiet of Kyoto.

A future that should have taken
a different shape—
feelings that should have lived
in another color.
Such regrets and afterglow
soften under the moon’s light.

Books resting deep inside the shelf
become companions beyond time,
supporting the loneliness
brought by loss.

The “four colors of memory”
are the shades of emotion themselves:
white as absence,
black as shadow,
red as passion,
blue as cold clarity.
Blended together,
they flow slowly—
like the Kamogawa
carrying the past downstream.

The lover is no longer here.
But the moon, the river,
and the quiet friends on the shelf
remain close
to the deepest part
of the heart.

A Manyō Poem

Wind bends
grass and trees,
and the sun
casts its light upon a white horse.

Shall one be buried
in this world?
Shall one shut one’s eyes to it?
Or flee to the world beyond?

Human afflictions—
in what age did they become blood,
in what age did they become bone?

Light and shadow,
sunk into the abyss of the past;
shadow and light,
bleeding on an unseen future horizon—
past and future overlap
here and now.

rises at once
and layers itself—
twice, thrice, and many times more—
past, present, future:
the full condensation of suffering.

Not a speck of dust remains;
its origin lies in none
but myself.

There is a time
for every multitude of things—
and that time, too,
is always present.

Signs slip in,
draw near—
do not be deceived by them.

The moment when
the chest and the gut
are granted full sovereignty
has not yet come.

Overlook nothing.
All authority rests
within oneself.

With dignity,
with calm, unwavering poise,
I mount the white horse.

The wind rings cool and clear;
its white mane loosens
in the morning light,
filling the dawn
with gentle radiance.

#poem
#ManyoPoem
#JapanesePoetry
#poemblog

Thoughts Behind the Poem

At the heart of this poem lies the inherited afflictions
that human beings have carried across vast stretches of time—
and the will that rises, even under the weight of that burden.

The light and shadow submerged in the abyss of the past,
and the shadow and light slowly emerging
on the horizon of the future—
these are not oppositions,
but strata of history layered within a single human being.

Suffering rarely arrives alone.
When the past, present, and future press into the chest all at once,
pain reverberates in overlapping layers,
and even one’s outline begins to tremble.
Yet if that condensation is faced directly,
its origin proves not to be external
but something that has long dwelled within.

This is why seizing “the moment” becomes decisive.
What does the chest choose?
What does the gut decide?
A misstep sinks one into the past;
a true grasp opens the future.
The authority lies entirely within oneself—
it cannot be taken away.

The image of mounting the white horse
serves as the emblem of resolve.
As the wind hums
and the light loosens its white mane,
a single human being begins
a new stride into morning—
a moment of inner dawn rendered in quiet clarity.
